The task of the competition required an unique and novel architecture to create a new landmark building and a scenic highlight in Shanghai.

Spread over an area of 15 hectares will raise a multifunctional complex of decorative sights, leisure & entertainment, science & technology, culture & art.

With the implementation of the original design was intended that the old and the new structures can interact closely with their environment:

the fertile soil, filled with grass, trees and multiples types of vegetation; and the lake, which also flows inside the building complex perimeter - allows for reflections and interesting scenarios be perceived by the audience.

A contrast between the wild growth of nature with the quiet sounds and the pleasant atmosphere that the water elements can bring

The project introduces a vibrant artificial landscape with an attractive topography with mountains and hills, wild and elegant vegetation, lakes and waterfalls, paths and buildings. Nature and architecture communicate here in a harmonious way – the green space assuming a leading role.

The architectural concept is based on the already existing landscape plan and balances natural landscape, architecture, technological and ecological solutions.

Hyundai’s “Modern Premium” strategy – the concern’s definition of quality encompassing technology, functionality, design, comfort and sustainability – formed the basis for an invited architectural competition to find a correspondingly comprehensive design concept, which could be simultaneously applied to all of Hyundai’s spatially very diverse locations.

DMAA’s competition entry addressed all key aspects of “Modern Premium” and formulated these as titles, hypotheses and arguments. The central themes and content of the winning concept were subsequently incorporated into the extensive “Global Dealership Space Identity” (GDSI)

Manual, which presents both the basic design idea for Hyundai’s dealerships and the flexibility with which it can be implemented in detail. Hyundai showrooms worldwide have been adapted or newly built according to these guidelines since 2014.

ZOOM IN G 01 Titel

zoom

The title says it all because the following 24 pages and the comprehensive illustrated supplement represent an attempt to “zoom in” on not only individual projects but also the internal world of this now multinational team. ZOOM provides background information about selected works, presents the key players and offers an impression of the processes that underpin the designs of DMAA.

DMAA ZOOM is a publication in the form of a newspaper which offers an up-to-date insight into the work and the ways of working and thinking of the Vienna architectural office Delugan Meissl Associated Architects.

ZOOM IN G 02 Essay Kari Jormakka

In addition to liberating the world from the burden of ornament, Adolf Loos boasted of having launched a Copernican revolution in architecture with his concept of the Raumplan. In the past, he claims, “mankind was unable to think in terms of space, and architects were compelled to make the bathroom as high as the salon,” but “as man will one day succeed in playing chess with a three-dimensional board, so other architects in the future will also solve the plan in three dimensions.”
